Believed to be one of the oldest known breeds the light sussex is a striking bird. Alert and generally quite docile. A good forager and reliable layer of light brown eggs although tend to go broody quite quickly if eggs are not collected daily. There are 7 other standard colours and are also available in bantam, although I find light sussex are the most popular. They are regularly used to create sex-linked chicks and I use these myself every year to create 'goldtops' for broodies.
