There are over 20 different species of turaco that originate from Africa. We find the 'white-cheeked' and 'red crested' are the most common and easiest to tame. They are very agile birds and can move from branch to branch with ease. Most turacos are brightly coloured with their green feathers, yellow/orange beak and are even more beautiful when flying, when they open there wings to reveal flashes of red. They can be quite noisy during the breeding season. There main diet is fruit although we find they do well on layer pellets and dogfood. Due to there diet there's no denying they can be very messy. For being a relatively small bird they are said to live for 20-30 years in captivity with ease.
